Are Duolingo developers doing everything to put off the users?

😅 First those nasty owl icons, then nasty owl animations and now those terrible lightning effects. I mean, the effect itself is impressive but as a sensory experience it's far from anythig pleasant. 🙈

Does Duolingo work? I mean does it work any better than any other computer based language acquisition tool? In my experience as a poor language student the only thing that really works is a relatively small amount of classroom learning combined with a lot of immersion in the society that speaks the target language. Anything else requires too much effort and persistence from most of us.

@ninalanyon It works with basics at most. Anything else requires other types of exercises. The exercises Duolingo offers are way too easy.

It the desperate attempt to make things "flashy" when, at root, you're learning grammar, vocabulary, idioms.
