What's the most popular app for writing with friends online in the US?

@Jessmari i like discord too. i've used it to voice/video chat with people in the us and australia

@beermeplease I'm mostly testing in the Skyrim mod channels where Dev's prefer the instant feedback on their work. I'm sure I've talked to people all over the world in those channels.

@Jessmari Is it any good for private conversation though? I'm new to it and recently joined some servers, but is there a way to just use DMs to talk in real time via Discord?

@Nightwings Yes discord has private messaging. You can also create a channel just for your group of friends.

@Jessmari I almost always chat 1 on 1 with friends. Like as if it was SMS (but WiFi is free at home).

Would you just do that via DMs? Are DMs real time, or more like "letter" Like here on SW?

@Nightwings real time. it's more akin to the old chat apps, but more refined.

@Jessmari @Nightwings yes its real time like jess said. i like using it and i've only ever used voice/video chat with 2 people so there's no pressure if you don't want to use it. but real time dms works well too.

@Jessmari It sounds interesting. Can you customize things so you get pinged for DMs and if someone in a group responds to you directly, only?

Asking because I'd like to get pinged by a server if someone responds directly to what I wrote, or if someone DMs me, but Inwould hate getting pinged every time someone on a large server writes in general, if I'm gonna use it for DMs and install on my phone for that purpose lol.

Can you also send files via DMs, or only on servers?

@Nightwings Yes to all of that. Some customization you will need to purchase, but the prices on such things are not bad at all. You will get pings and notifications in real time. Discord in effect steps in for skype and more. There is a 50MB file limit for free use i believe. I have the first tier of nitro which brings that up to 250MB which i needed for higher quality game video uploads.

@Jessmari What kind of costumization? A few dollars is hundreds of hryvnias, so I think it could be expensove to me.

Are image files by default sent in original resolution?

Can you delete sent files to free storage? If so, is it easy/quick enough to do?

@Nightwings I stand corrected, but I'm using the second tier which is 500MB for $10/month. If you are just sharing photos and small things like that you won't need that much.
