What's the most popular app for writing with friends online in the US?

I have always used Skype, but it's shutting down soon. In Ukraine we all use Viber. What about the US?

I want an app that's meant for RL chatting, that is also capable of sending different file types and doesn't compress sent images.

@YoMomma Thank you! I added some more to my initial post, because I also don't want it to compress sent images, which Messenger does. I also remember not being able to send different types of files, though maybe that's possible now. I don't like that I need to have social media to use it though, I want something that's only for chatting.

@Nightwings oh i don't really chat much but you could probably google top american chat apps idk i know people use whatsapp and kik and telegram and idk what 😬 is tictok used for chatting? Idk

@YoMomma TikTok is for making super short videos, I know because I heard artist YouTubers talk about it all the time lol. I wouldn't trust Telegram because Russia, even if it claims to be encrypted. I have no Idea what Kik is, but WhatsApp sounds promising, maybe.

It's a bit difficult to find trustworthy reviews of these kinda apps online, so I was hoping some people here might be familiar with some of them. 😄

@YoMomma I feel the other way around. I don't like using SW too often, but I do like staying in touch with my close friends, so I need an app without social media for that. 😄

@YoMomma Facebook is owned by Meta, and they gather information like crazy. Stay well clear of Facebook if you are worried about security.
