Sometimes I wonder.

Some people here are clearly playing a character, I can’t help but wonder how sad their actual life is that they feel the need to make an entire online personality to make themselves feel better. What happened to people just being themselves?

I understood why that was a thing ages ago. Some people aren’t accepted for who they are, or living with the sadness that is their existence is just too much for them to be their actual selves 24/7. One of the advantages of a place like this is you can be whoever you want to be, and for a good number of people who want to escape their reality or simply want a “do over” they can do just that. It’s a breather for them. A way for them to feel something other than the darkness that persists so much in their real lives.

@acupaday I definitely relate to that to a point. I call this my escape from reality, but more in the sense that I see people I can relate to here that I can’t in the real world. But the people I’m talking about are the ones that believe their own fabrications, each to their own I guess.

@DHggmu People are naturally more guarded and very aware of their audience in reality. Here the openness can easily flow due to the anonymity alone, so I get how easily you could relate to people here. Those who believe their own fabrications though. There’s a lot of psychology working there. It’s all about feeding the dopamine and people go to great lengths to not ruin the source of a good time. I stopped saying “Wow. Okay” some time ago because of how devoted they can be to the character they’ve created, especially when they have supporting characters who keep feeding their fragile and hungry ego.

@acupaday Yeah you’ve summed up my thoughts perfectly. I guess because I can’t relate to “those” people, that’s why it’s something I’m not understanding. Each to their own, the block button may have to be used more often.
