I thought it did have an app. Only for Android phones though.
lover007 · 26-30, M
@Colonelmustardseed oh may be but not for iOS
LordShadowfire · M
@Colonelmustardseed I mean, yes and no. It's basically a skin for Google Chrome that only opens the Similar Worlds website.
Then again, I guess that could be said of the Twitter, Facebook, and other apps, lol.

@Colonelmustardseed it does, its basically like a widget that you could've gotten through chrome but sw likes to tout that its "different" even though i see 0 differences between one and the other

Browser.
A stand-alone app is just one (or several) more headache(s) for the admins and one more possible security risk for us users.
The browser interface is universal - iOS, MacOS, Windows 7,8,10,11, Android (dozens of versions), Linux (dozens of versions), NetBSD, FreeBSD, etc etc.

In order for them to make a TRUE app, they would have to limit it, like Reddit does. So that means far fewer options. Reddits app has no moderator options.
I would rather have the options than a spying app! Which is what push notifications is all about.
No push notifications, no app of any type.
This pushing for apps is to both about limiting your options as well as to easily collect more data.
Not about real change, like giving more options. Any app can only be so large on anyones cellphone without slowing everything down.
It puts the burden on the users rather than on the servers, while limiting the options. Few options faster service.
This is why this site chose to go with a fake app. You have no choice about push notifications on the app. Nor do you have a choice on Google's chrome browser.
Google just luvs to spy on everything about everyone. And Apple isn't much better than Google, when it comes to spying. They actually make you pay for their spying. And why this site has trouble with Apple! They want them to pay for their API! 🤣

If it wants to grow in this day and age, it needs an app. It won't attract many people with substance, such as in the early days of EP, but SW doesn't have that to begin with, so that shouldn't be an issue.
deadgerbil · 22-25, M
It has an app. I don't use it, as I bounce between SW and Google
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
I'm only using the SW app, so smooth!

I'm happy with browser

@NoahTheWeebWolf Same. So many websites push their app to the exclusion of using your web browser.
