First round of the Premiership. Your thoughts?

Can Spurs challenge for the title? They look really good and imo might push Liverpool for second. It's really hard not to see Man City win the league.

Arsenal look good for a top four challenge. Bournemouth and Fulham look better than expected, which will make this season's relegation battle competitive.

My lord, how bad are Man United? I had them to finish 6th but that looks optimistic now

For a short moment I thought you were talking about Boris Johnson's successor candidates ("First round of the Premiership"), but no – it's about football 😑

@helenS Politics is more important, not always more interesting.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@helenS I hate politics talk. 😇

Man City will buy the title; Liverpool second and at least one cup. Spurs in the top four and the rest make up the numbers.
Come on Carlisle!
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@LizOwen buy the title? As Liverpool , Man United, Blackburn and Chelsea have done before them. Did I miss anybody out?
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@GeniUs Probably most teams in the foreign billionaire-owned league!
GeniUs · 56-60, M
Man City dominated a good West Ham; opinion not changed- champions.
Liverpool tardy but will still finish second.
Spurs/Arsenal took care of weak opposition.
Chelsea need to get out of the malaise they're in which will happen once they batter somebody.
Man United I get schadenfreude watching them but they will pick up of course.
Not really changed my original opinion of the top 8.

i agree with one thing you say who can stop manchester city will be the question . maybe i am bias here but liverpool i think will not let them have it all there own way .one game gone a long way to go yet ,get too christmas and things sort of start too take shape a little by then [burnley123]
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@smiler2012 So you don't agree that United are tragically bad? I have friends who are united fans. I mentioned Rabiot and Anautuvic to one of them and he told me to f off.

😜
smiler2012 · 56-60
@Burnley123 oh yes there are but this is not an old problem at old trafford really .they have been on the downward spiral since mourhinio was in charge . they are now how liverpool used too be fifteen years back . they seem too be pining a lot on ten hag switching there fortunes like jurgen klopp has at liverpool .until ten hag sorts out some of his spoiled pampered players nothing will change at old trafford a sort of case of what goes around comes around at old trafford
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@smiler2012 If you ran a masterclass on how to fuck up a football club, Joel Glazer would be a grandmaster tutor.

I think Ten Haag already regrets going there. Until they get a decent director if football, nothing will change.

Liverpool actually have smart American owners who bring analytic expertise in recruitment of players and also get the big decisions right.

I think the title will come down to who can give the top 4 teams a good game - maybe Newcastle can throw a spanner in the works and beat one of them or draw a couple of times against top teams - even Brighton could pose an issue if they have a really good day. Also injuries will have a say - especially for Liverpool I feel.

Spurs will challenge for top 4 but they always have a dreadful run of form at some point in the season!!

Only saw MOTD highlights but Spurs look great and could have scored 8! Utd look bereft of leadership and confidence and i fear will finish 6-8th? The first Brighton goal sums up the chaos....seriously, you would not see such poor defending in a school match. Not a defender in sight at the back post and all the time in the world to finish. Going to be a long season!!

Very dangerous after 1 game but my top 6:
1. Man City
2. Liverpool
3. Spurs
4. Chelsea
5. Arsenal
6. Newcastle

No Man Utd for me, confidence shot, dressing room malaise and just can't see ten Hag being strong enough to turn them around 🤷‍♂️
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@PSuss1 I actually agree with all of that.

It's the same order as my pre season top 6, apart from you having Newcastle in 6th. Having said that, United look so so bad that I can see them finishing lower. They have 0% chance of even the top four. Ten Haag is a good coach but he inherits problems piled on problems.

Arsenal will def be pushing for top four but, yes, I'd also currently favour Chelsea slightly more.
MartinII · 70-79, M
I’m biased of course, but Arsenal must be a good bet for the top four. They would have got there last year if they had played properly against Tottenham and Newcastle, even though they had played poorly quite often during the season. This year they seem to have a more solid and united squad.
vorian · 51-55, M
Man united are hilarious. Long may it continue.

The villa were shocking. I watched the game on my dodgy box...i was expecting much better..

I see from your name you probably support the second best tean in claret and blue...
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@vorian Third best

Gillingham, Gillingham, Gillingham.... *sound of scrolling down league tables *

Oh yes right 12th League 2... Sorry what was the question again?
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
Spurs playing away to Chelsea in the next round will be an interesting match. Early test for two sides picked to finish top 4.
GeniUs · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 any thought on the Championship yet, I've seem a lot of comments to the effect that, 'anybody can beat anybody' but this is a nonsense after 2 games.
KarenDuponteDurose · 46-50, F
Newcastle supporter here...good first win of the season....

Fulham looked a handful for the 'Pool ; I fancy them to go far..
