Alea iacta est!

馃檮 So the "I love REAL football" group is gone too. What a pitty... it was so HippyJoe. Remeber, it's not science, it's REAL science.

Just got home to find that the Champions League draws are up.
Some tough groups. I'm pretty sure the only Belgian team that made isn't going to survive the winter. Not in the Champions League and not in the Europea League.

Group A has some big firework games comming up.
Group B also has a lot of potential.
Group E, Bayern Vs Barca could also be a joy to watch.

Wonder if PSGs' investment will get some return this year. Their biggest goal is the champions league, they bought all the potential that was on the market. So I wonder if they'll get a return.

@GLITTER yes yes, I know champions pampions. I know. 馃懌

They should bring it back for the world cup.

@SW-User The group? Yeah it's hard on all of us. 馃懍
SW-User
@Kwek00 the euro cup draws were fun. I actually used to go to matches back in Eastern Europe. Soccer supporting is a big thing there

@Kwek00 it鈥檚 part of the game. They usually close down public transit when two big rivals are playing and half the police force is deployed
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User I don't really consider that "part of the game". That kinda mentality, I don't support.
SW-User
@Kwek00 that鈥檚 how it always was. It started out with kids playing on the street with heads of people. Violence was always present
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User Yeah, well, there was a time that we hit someone in the face, dragged them to our caves to have sex with them as a form of "trophy" of our victory. However, we got over it over time. Because things that have always been, don't really have to be maintained. It's called smartening up, ... as a society. We don't have to be as stupid as our fathers, just as they didn't have to be as stupid theirs.
SW-User
@Kwek00 ok but organized crime and football supporting is one and the same in certain parts of the world. It鈥檚 business on and off the field
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User Yes, but that again doesn't mean that it has to be.
Some things aren鈥檛 like the gravity or the law of thermo-dynamics; they don鈥檛 have to happen. They happen only if people are stupid enough to allow them to happen.

SW-User
@Kwek00 well, let鈥檚 take the drug angle on this quote. Who is stupid? The dealer or the consumer?
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User I don't really see why either one is nescesarilly stupid? You are aware we are still talking about football right? That organised crime syndicates/families/groups/organisations have a favor for a team doesn't really matter that much when it comes to football. The behavior of these human beings inside and around the stadium is what I'm talking about.
SW-User
@Kwek00 yes,im aware. Football is an industry. Violence will only make it more popular and some cash in on it. All that cash comes from the fans aka consumers.
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User Why would it make it more popular?
SW-User
@Kwek00 because it makes the news
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User And how many people choose to stay away from events that make the news like this?
SW-User
@Kwek00 it鈥檚 not about going there personally. It鈥檚 always the same people at the stadiums. That鈥檚 already set. They hear about the teams in the news.
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User So you believe, that there is no new influx of new supporters? And if there is an influx, the violence of idiots is what draws them to the stadium? And no one stays home because of the dumbass behavior of others that apperently is violent enough to make the news.
SW-User
@Kwek00 no,im saying it gives it a giant boost. The most popular teams(besides the ones everyone heard about in the soccer universe) are the problematic ones. Even people who don鈥檛 give a rats ass about football heard of them
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User Where do you get this from? Where does it say, that it boosts ticket sales? You think that a team like Barcelona, Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munchen, Borrusia Dortmund, Red Bull Salzsburg, Ajax, Paris Saint Germaine, ... get their popularity because of violence? Or because they are good enough to win major tournaments and play in the top brackets of their home competition?
SW-User
@Kwek00 teams don鈥檛 make their money off of ticket sales man. They make the big bucks off of merchandise. The teams you mentioned are all signed with major companies
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User Do you think their T-shirts sell more when these teams are playing in the big leagues? Winning mayor Tournaments? Or when their fans get on TV by shamefull performances of violence.
SW-User
@Kwek00 both
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User If that was true, then why do big teams like Barca, don't come in the news with violence?
SW-User
@Kwek00 FC barcelona is an established team in contract with nike? It would hurt them. But there are small ,within country teams making crazy money by simply being notorious. No such thing as bad publication until you鈥檙e small
Kwek0041-45, M
@SW-User I would love to see the actual data on that to be honest. And if Hooliganism boosts popularity and revenue or does the contrarary. Not to mention all the fines teams have to pay for the dumbass behavior of their supporters.

Also, football hooliganism in a lot of countries in "established" teams have run all the way up till the 80s and 90s. But because of dramas' making the news, the bad publicity and sponsors backing off, hooliganism in a lot of countries have been greatly reduced. And the clubs that are doing well are still thriving. And because some brands want to connect their name to the club, probably get more revenue then the edgy fans buying a T-shirt or 2 every year.
