When my parents were living with us they both chain smoked. We installed several hepa filters, and it did help, but the filters had to be thrown out every month as they would be completely covered in tar and other gross stuff. I cannot imagine what that does inside your body.
Can you convince them to smoke outside?

@JamesBugman those are banned in Canada. Also i should mentions he id a diabetic.
@TeaUrchin Oh come-on, work with me here.. How can we fix this? Vape? I dunno, buy some hollow tubes or something? Is there such a thing as an AI cigarette? or EV or something?
TeaUrchin · FNew
@JamesBugman I tried to get him to vape. That is how i found out he never draws it in(or whatever it is called). He told the kids at the shop that their recommendations are not valid until they are as old as him.

I tried to get him to use patches no go.

Tried counselling (he went on his own). I think the counsellor started to smoke again

Tried hypnotism (he went on his own. They found his will too strong)

He was never much of a snacker and his dentures always hurt so carrots sticks, with diabetes he tried sugarless candy...nope

He describes like its a love affair. He watched all the old Hollywood black and white movies and old smoking ads. He is willing to ignore his family (mom-copd, me asthma)/friends, to starve and to give away his money just to keep smoking. He refuses to let go.

A person like that that you cant change. I've given up. Ive chosen to mitigate, and remind him constantly. I recently discussed cleaning his bathroom (my house). It came out to 3k cad. He was very angry taking it out on me...then it stopped.

I have no ideas unless voodoo works?

The vent is about 5 years old and it does work, the vent and unit is clean, itjust when he exits there is alot of smoke. I have no idea whst ceiling fan to buy for a 2piece bath and stacked washer&dryer.

The air filter sounds good. Is that wired in? And does it sit high or row

A bathroom normally is not in the center of a house that's a little confusing and usually has a window that can be opened that being said most bathrooms especially Master bathrooms come with an electric ventilation switch next to the light switch that will suck all humidity out of the room and usually is good for cigarette smoke as well or other things. That being restricted there are also choices of small plug-in air purifiers that do work fairly decently as long as he is not in their chain smoking

@KingofBones1 its a weird house. It was a one bedroom initial with the kitchen off the back door. The they added an addition to include a larger kitchen and master bedroom. And for added spice, the added garage on either side with a hallway. Then a extension was built upwards going over everything. Bathrooms normally have windows. The 5 in this building do not.

I'll look into a small filter and advise of what kind

@TeaUrchin look into things like Sharper Image and Bushnell they make good ones they are a little pricey but they usually work fairly decent that is definitely a different house indeed

I’d look into getting a good ionic air purifier.

Bowenw · 61-69, M
You may be able to use a high quality air filter.
Bowenw · 61-69, M
@TeaUrchin I understand. I'm afraid I cannot see where that recommended one is made.
TeaUrchin · FNew
@Bowenw no worries, ill trace it. This is a good start

@TeaUrchin Check out this site:
https://madeinca.ca/the-10-best-air-purifiers-in-canada-for-2025/
The manufacturer of the one that is highly recommended has others that show as made in Canada, so they may all be.

An inexpensive air filter can be made with a standard box fan an an appropriate-size HEPA filter that can be bought at a hardware store.
TeaUrchin · FNew
@ChipmunkErnie thank you. I research this. I need electrical work to plug in
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@TeaUrchin Just a regular wall plug.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M

TeaUrchin · FNew
