Allied troop giving a dying Japanese solider his final cigarette (no TW needed) just wanted to bring culture to my normal stuff

Its super rare to see humanity like that in war....

I'm no soldier, but I wonder if such shows of humanity is that rare when the fight is over....I would think the attitude "that could be me" would be quite prevalent

My uncle was an engineer on a destroyer over in the pacific in WWII. He was in shore on an island that the US had just recaptured. Japanese soldiers were put into concrete bunkers on the beach. He overheard the comander tell one of the people ti "Secure the Guard". The man said,"Yes Sir." And immediately went to each bunker and lobbed grenades into them.

Sometimes even in war you can show humanity
Unfortunately the humanity wasn't mutual in that war.
If a Japanese soldier would see a dying Allied soldier they would bayonet them and not give them a puff of a smoke.

Considering the Japanese mentality towards war and Americans I was actually surprised to see this. I didn't think a Japanese soldier would accept a cigarette from an enemy soldier.
