Why oh why do people attempt to control each other? 馃槥

That's all this is about really.

BTW I hardly drink, and I never do drugs. This applies to all that as well.

@DeWayfarer I am OK with people smoking, drinking or taking drugs , as long as they dont do it around me or do dangerous things like driving..Its brave of them to shorten their lifespans just to pay more taxes..馃樂

@whowasthatmaskedman believe me you'll be surprised what can do anyone in. It's not a matter of chance either.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@DeWayfarer I am OK with individual freedon. I just want to see responsibility for ones actions to go with it..馃樂
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman ok I'll give a personal example...

My sister in-law was a health nut that I loved as a second mother. She died of ovarian cancer at 35.

I'm 65 now and have seen around ten similar personal trajodies!

You don't know what will do anyone in!

By the odds I should be dead many times over.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@DeWayfarer Equaly, I should have been dead 15 years ago, for different reasons. But I got detected early and with simple therapy I continue on indefinately. We all have those stories. But its all in the gene cards we are dealt, coupled with the lifestyle we lead.. Smoking dribking and poor lifestyle are not a death sentence. But they are another joker in the deck.馃樂

@whowasthatmaskedman no no I'm talking about unpredictable reasons! Like being thrown out of a car going 35 mph at six months old!

There was no way they could have predicted my sister-in-law's death in 1990

@DeWayfarer In the UK, it is because smoking is commonly agreed to be a public health crisis, costing the taxpayer about 拢7 billion more in dealing with the consequences than it produces in tax revenues. I for one would like to stop subsidising other peoples' destructive habits through my taxes (or health insurance in a different healthcare system).

@SunshineGirl so you think no one should climb Mount Everest because of the deaths ....

Yes a little bit old...

https://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/everest/mount-everest-fatality-rate-ten-climbers/
The 2023 death toll on Everest has already reached double digits鈥攚ith multiple people still missing. And the climbing season isn鈥檛 over yet.
SunshineGirl36-40, F
@DeWayfarer Well, if 6.4 million Brits (equal to the number of smokers) decided to climb Everest and then expected the taxpayer to fund the cost of associated healthcare and repatriation . . then yes I would place mountain climbing in the same category as smoking.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@SunshineGirl there are 100 of thousands of such situations in every major country every day!

It's actually keeping the world population down a bit.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@SunshineGirl I believe that is where the freedom/responsibility balance comes in. That seven billion puonds should be raised by tobacco taxes. And the fines for drink or drugged driving should pay for the damage the accidents cause. (I know thats a complicated equation. ) So if you wish to abuse substances, just accept your responsibilities to others as an adult..And if you want to ruin your own life, fine. Just dont ruin others or expect them to save you. Skydiving is a risky sport. Some choose to do it. But they dont expect the ground to be covered in air beds and trampolines if something goes wrong. Its their risk to take..馃樂

@whowasthatmaskedman you're are more right than you know.

Yet you'll have to figure that one out for yourself.

Life is change in any direction. The direction doesn't matter.

Did you know that there is something at temperatures below absolute zero?

Huge hint! The wording here is precisely put.
