Did you manage to give up smoking successfully?

I discussed with my husband about ways to stop smoking. I used to but he still does, it's one of his "pleasures in life".
Would a hypnotherapist help, I asked him. No, he wasn't convinced.
I found it really hard giving up cigarettes and now it's been three years. He only smokes at work but if he feels the need for a ciggie at home he will go outside to his man cave - the shed.

Yes and no.

I smoked for 12 years. And quit cold turkey for a window of about 11 years. One day just out of no where bought a pack and started smoking again for a year and change. Got tired of it and quit cold turkey again. Both times I was chain smoking roughly a pack and a half a day by the end of both times.

It's from my experience a battle with the mind. I literally have the want to stop smoking and remember the cravings are only 10 minutes long. Find a way to defeat your urges for that window and follow through
I switched from smoking to vaping in 2019, primarily because smoking had become incompatible with my acid reflux. I've been a lot better with vaping but obviously it's still nicotine and there are those who still associate it with health concerns despite there being fairly scant evidence when the industry is properly regulated. Still, it's certainly credible that it's still harmful and I take that risk on board.
i was a heavy smoker but quit when i was 37 (17 years ago) quit cold turkey one day and never looked back. i've seen first hand at the destruction smoking related illnesses cand do...don't just think it's a heart and lung issue as it can do more than that

I used an app called Quitsure 3 years ago and I stopped smoking 4 days after using it. I haven't touched a cigarette since. I don't crave them. I can be around smokers and feel nothing but disgust of the smell. It's a course you take and you have to smoke to do it so you don't have to quit to do it.
I gave up 25 years ago. It was a little hard at first, but what i did was to keep the packet that still had some cigarettes in. When i felt the urge id open the box and smell the tobacco.
Over a couple of weeks it became less and less.
I think within a month id gotten rid and ive never touched one since.

I never smoked, but my wife smoked in college and a bit when she worked in an office where most people smoked. She decided to quit and just stopped. It wasn't a problem for her.

Yes, but I did relapse once when I got divorced. I went back to smoking for about 6 months and then I got pneumonia and that made it a lot easier to quit. I hear that people are using ZYN now to help them quit might help.

I used nicotene gum for a bit, but basically just quit cold turkey. Sucked big time at first but it got better over time. I still have dreams of smoking once in a while though.

Quit cold turkey 35+ years ago when I met my wife and she wasn't a smoker, have given in a few times over the years, usually when drinking and hanging out with friends who are smokers.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
My wife and I quit about 23 years ago, she started back around 8 years ago.

It's not easy even if you want to stop. If you don't want to stop, it might be impossible
Matt85 · 36-40, M

Smoking was the worst thing I ever started, it was the very best thing I have ever done was to stop.

ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
After 40+ years of smoking cigars I gave them up over a decade ago.
Mairead · 36-40, FNew
@ChipmunkErnie Well done, you. That's many years of smoking.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Mairead And a hell of a lot of money, looking back at it.
Mairead · 36-40, FNew
@ChipmunkErnie It's about £16.45 for a pack of 20 cigarettes here in the UK. You can buy the cheaper ones for £12, no idea how much cigars are but they must be astronomical!

Quitting smoking is super easy.... I've done it hundreds of times.

Actually, I finally won the battle almost 35 years ago
