When doctors ask if you do drugs are you more inclined to lie or tell the truth?

I tend to deny drug usage because I feel it's not important for them to know.
I tell my doctor everything!
That’s the one person you do not lie to.

@nonsensiclesnail exactly...for ur own good

I don’t really go to the doctor but I would totally tell them. All drugs legal or not can impact you in different ways and they should know what chemistry they’re working with. Plus the stigma around illegal drugs needs to stop before we can end this silly prohibition so I’m always open about my usage
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@Russ999 Wish they'd end the prohibition too.

i've never done drugs so don't have to lie lol
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@SW-User Good and never start or you'll wind up like me. Nobody wants to be me.

It is important, they're not asking just out of curiosity, they need the informatiom either to explain some symptoms or to see if there are any possible interactions with other meds they might prescribe or if they will need to alter the dose before a surgery etc. There's patient confidentiality which means they will not use that information against you in any way.

One time I was getting some pain in my side checked out, and when they asked me if I smoke I said only pot lol. The lady said "that doesn't count, well it does but we're more concerned about cigarettes" and left it at that lol.
Sweetguy024 · 36-40, M
There's a doctor/patient confidentiality thing that makes it so that doctor can't report you to law enforcement just for admitting to using an illegal substance
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@Sweetguy024 that's good to know i was worried about that
CestManan · 46-50, F
I just tell my doctor I'm drinking milk so I can grow up big and strong and healthy
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@CestManan Milk mustache to prove it

@NovaNine my old doctor, every time I walked in she felt the need to remind me I had type 2 diabetes. She always wanted to make sure my feet were okay. I got tired of that so one time I said, my feet are fine but should we go ahead and schedule an amputation anyway? She didn't think that was very funny
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
I tell the truth because I don’t do drugs or drink alcohol or abuse my prescriptions

Also doctors, emts, and paramedics don’t really care, they just wanna care for you. Sometimes they might be biased but still gotta help you. I think sometimes it might prevent a doctor from possibly prescribing something depending on the situation.
I hope you're joking.
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@MsSwan I am not.
@NovaNine You're playing a dangerous game.

I've been honest about marijuana usage and have experience imo discrimination and barriers in receiving certain types of medications and treatment because of my honesty.
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
When adk about how many drinks I consume weekly I usually lowball the number.
Wiseacre · F
u're actually wrong about that...ur doc needs to know if u use drugs.
Nanori · F
I don't do drugs but I lie about everything else
If it’s a new doctor, I’ll certainly tell them what prescription drugs I take. And that I do occasionally use edibles for sleep. That keeps them from prescribing something that might interact badly.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I tell the truth, they need to know this information. I haven’t done drugs but you need to be telling your doctor. If they prescribe you a med that interacts with one of the drugs you are taking, you could die.

When I used various drugs, I tended to be honest about it when talking to doctors.
NovaNine · 56-60, M
@SW-User you're a braver man than I
