Dreading appointment tomorrow

I have not had dental work done in fifteen years. I've kept up fairly well with brushing, but could surely improve more flossing. I have however, TMJ pain often, so avoided dentists so long. It simply hurts too much to keep my mouth open for a half hour to an hour.

But I noticed what MAY be decay or the start of two cavities in my back molars. They said if the dentist needs to fill it , he can do it tomorrow after examining it.

They'll give me breaks too to close my mouth. But another issue is vertigo..I ALSO have a misaligned jaw and any little pressure on my cheek near my ear, can give vertigo. Of course the work possibly needed is on that side where my jaw is misaligned, so I'm do nervous that the drill will give me vertigo. I do have ice packs and motion sickness pills. I just hope it goes ok. 😕

It’ll be fine. You’ll be glad you did it in the end x

Praying for you lovely lady. I hate the dentist too and that's without the TMJ nerve pain 😘

I have a root canal scheduled tomorrow on a tooth that another dentist refused to do many years ago. I will be sedating myself 😬

I hope yours goes well too!

@MellyMel22 Root canals aren’t actually that bad. There is a bit of a pinch prick to numb the root and then you feel absolutely nothing! It’s glorious!!!

@Muthafukajones I’ve had a bunch 😬 I’m resistant to all numbing. I feel numb(w/novacane), but I feel the pain. I’m the same with other numbing stuff. I have a dr who told me I was lucky that I couldn’t have the numbing shot in my spine for my c-section b/c I would’ve felt everything like she did.

I was also once told that it’s kind of dangerous, but when my nerves are set up there. That’s why they refuse to do this one when I was pregnant the first time.

They will be kind and patient with you. You’ll be medicated so you won’t feel pain. They will fix you and it will be ok! There was a very kind hygienist who helped me through a long procedure several years ago. I will never forget her.

@Muthafukajones Thanks Mutha...I am glad they numb pain..but I'm just worried any of this drilling or moving my face, will trigger vertigo , from my misaligned jaw. Vertigo is Horrible. But I do have motion sickness pills that help if it's moderate vertigo. Ohh I wish I could be done with the appointment 😔

@Baybreeze She held my hand and rubbed a pressure point that calmed me down. She said sweetly to me she would be scared too but that she would be with me the whole time to help me through it. I had 5 fillings replaced. I went home and made myself an ice water and took a long afternoon nap in a dark room. Later that night I took myself out for ice cream! I made it! You will too!

@Muthafukajones Thanks, appreciate that 🌟

IV sedation is something you might consider … for future appointments .
