Anyone with TMJ: How do you handle the dentist?

How do you handle going to the dentist? I have not been in several years because I often get jaw pain and it's just too tender to open it too long. I need to go tomorrow though because I believe I have a cavity. They did assure me he's very good, and I've read online dentists give breaks to people with TMJ, to massage their jaw. Anyone here (WITH TMJ) have any particular routine when GOing to a dentist? I'm really on edge for tomorrow 🥺

Just go in being vocal about it. Let them know you may need a break and why. They will often give you a signal like putting your hand up. Good luck . You're going to do fine. 🫂

@Frostcloud Ugh I had to cancel last week too, I had too much pain. I'm sorry you also dealt with it. Do you have TMJ ? A dentist should know everyone's mouth will be different sizes.! I will talk to him before the X-ray and ask if they can aid me by taking multiple breaks

@Coralmist yeah, they'll work with you a million percent and i expect they'dbe more than happy to bend backwards for your needs. my tmj is a nightmare but i didnt talk about it as such when i went to a specialist so my insursnce decided i didn't need help. i can barely eat lmao

so don't make that mistake. make it known how much it affects your life and make a big stink about it so you can get the care you need 🙏
