Relationships are often terminally condemned by infatuation

I’m not going to be the type of person who get so very excited about having someone new in my life, simply because they don’t warrant that kind of emotional response until they have made some kind of commitment to me.

Am I wrong in thinking this way?

You‘re wrong, not because your thinking isn’t rational. It is. It‘s meant to protect you from potential disappointment, but such is the nature of romantic relationships. More importantly, though, getting very excited about having someone new in your life (romantically) is just another way to describe love.
Love isn’t contingent on a prior commitment by the person you love. You either do or don’t. But if you do, nothing should stop you from embracing these feelings even if you might get disappointed.

@CedricH Surely love is MORE than you think here?
