Finally... A Real Conversation..
He walked up to me a few hours ago and very sincerely apologized. I was kinda blown away. He also said he won't be bothering me anymore.
If you want to catch up, here's a previous story about him: https://similarworlds.com/single/4379733-Youve-GOT-to-be-kidding-right
This was very out of character for him and it seemed that our last interaction had an impact on him. I motioned for him to sit down. We started talking. Turns out I was right, he lives quite nearby. He's actually several years younger than me (him 24 to my 27), but he looks older than his age and I generally look younger.
He's still working toward his undergrad in engineering and has the summer off. The waiter came by to close out my lunch and called me Lieutenant (I'm a regular here).
"So you're really in the military?"
"Did you think I was lying?"
"No. But I just don't know anyone who is."
"Well now you do."
"So am I supposed to thank you or something?"
"For what?"
"Idk, everyone always thanks military people, right?"
"Well, that's entirely up to you. Yes, a lot of people do, but it's certainly not required."
That launched a whole discussion on military life and commitment and future plans, his and mine. Despite knowing nothing of the military, he was still surprised to hear I was likely separating from the Navy when my commitment was completed in January.
He was shocked when he finally comprehended that I'm living on my boat for the summer and that I had sailed it down here from New England.
It was the first REAL conversation we've had. I told him he's a lot more tolerable when he's just himself and not some jerk hitting on me. And I reminded him that I'm not looking for any relationships this summer. 🙂
A quiet peace settled over the docks... 🤣
