Finally... A Real Conversation..

He walked up to me a few hours ago and very sincerely apologized. I was kinda blown away. He also said he won't be bothering me anymore.

If you want to catch up, here's a previous story about him: https://similarworlds.com/single/4379733-Youve-GOT-to-be-kidding-right

This was very out of character for him and it seemed that our last interaction had an impact on him. I motioned for him to sit down. We started talking. Turns out I was right, he lives quite nearby. He's actually several years younger than me (him 24 to my 27), but he looks older than his age and I generally look younger.

He's still working toward his undergrad in engineering and has the summer off. The waiter came by to close out my lunch and called me Lieutenant (I'm a regular here).

"So you're really in the military?"

"Did you think I was lying?"

"No. But I just don't know anyone who is."

"Well now you do."

"So am I supposed to thank you or something?"

"For what?"

"Idk, everyone always thanks military people, right?"

"Well, that's entirely up to you. Yes, a lot of people do, but it's certainly not required."

That launched a whole discussion on military life and commitment and future plans, his and mine. Despite knowing nothing of the military, he was still surprised to hear I was likely separating from the Navy when my commitment was completed in January.

He was shocked when he finally comprehended that I'm living on my boat for the summer and that I had sailed it down here from New England.

It was the first REAL conversation we've had. I told him he's a lot more tolerable when he's just himself and not some jerk hitting on me. And I reminded him that I'm not looking for any relationships this summer. 🙂

A quiet peace settled over the docks... 🤣

well, aren't some people just amazing...
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@sarabee1995 🤗 even your beloved mama is entitled to the occasional lapse in judgment...
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ShadowSister I'll include it. Just don't be too critical of me.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Yulianna I'm not sure this was a lapse. I'll let you decide.
ShadowSister · 46-50, F
I have such mixed thoughts. On one hand, if you've got to deal with this guy, I guess this went as well as it can go. On the other hand, I'm annoyed that you feel obligated to even have a discussion with him in the first place. I would prefer that he just left you alone entirely.

My experience is that no matter how many times you tell them, guys do not care that you are not looking for any relationships. They will jump at anything they perceive as even a remote chance. Because, they think, no harm in trying, right?

I'm glad that if you had to have a conversation with this bozo, at least it went better.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ShadowSister The "bozo" part??? 🤔
ShadowSister · 46-50, F
@sarabee1995 Exactly. Dontcha think?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ShadowSister Perhaps. I know it's a word he uses. I'm not sure by itself that it makes your speech pattern Biden-esque. Maybe a little. 🙂

Ground Hog Day.....Take Two

Famous Last Words....

@Yulianna @KiwiBird Lol, no way. He's done. I'm sure he'll continue to hang out there, but he won't be approaching me.

However....your reminder about no summer filings might be akin to a red rag to a bull.

We await part 1V.
ShadowSister · 46-50, F
@sarabee1995 ... and he keeps oozing out of that box
ShadowSister · 46-50, F
@KiwiBird Oops, sorry I somehow posted to the wrong thread. This is why I hate doing SW on my phone. Steph, just pretend what I said was relevant to what you first commented. And that is was witty and brilliant.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@ShadowSister You are always welcome with any comments and always brilliant. 🤗
Scribbles · 36-40, F
He sounds like a pretty sheltered young adult. :/ Well at least he's learned to make less assumptions about people perhaps.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Scribbles Hey Scribs... Thanks for asking. Technically I'm not under a "contact" per se... That's more for enlisted sailors. As a commissioned officer, I'm technically attached to the Navy for life. But yes, I am thinking of stepping back from active duty. Several options are before me. And I should start by saying that I have not yet made a definitive decision yet.

Among the options before me is one from the Navy. And it is quite lucrative. I don't think it is a secret that the flare up in Eastern Europe this past fall & winter caught the entire US Military Intelligence community somewhat unprepared (recent years saw a refocusing of attention from Europe & the Middle East to West Pac).

And since I've been studying Eastern Europe for essentially the last ten years... they want me to stay. But there are other options as well. There's a private industry option and a couple "three letter federal agency" options.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@sarabee1995 Good luck in making your decision! 🤗
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Scribbles Thanks!
TexChik · F
Ahhhhh! 😂
TexChik · F
@sarabee1995 people are a combination of influences and ideas
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@TexChik That's very true. And if my occasional crossing of paths with him over this summer causes an influence or two to pass over, then I am happy with that. It won't be an affirmative action on my part, but I do try to positively influence all around me. 🤷‍♀️

@sarabee1995 when I was in school
My instructor's views as well as practicing surgeons ( that was my original goal) were great influences for me.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Hello! Long time no see. Hope you are doing well.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Livingwell Hey! Yes, long time. All good here. How are you?
Livingwell · 61-69, M
@sarabee1995 I'm well. Still in school? Same area of study?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Livingwell Oh gosh no. Completed undergrad in spring 2017 and my masters in December 2019. (I'm not sure which I was in the last time we spoke.)
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
Very interesting. Being true to yourself payed off.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@GJOFJ3 It always does! 🙂
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
If he had just started like that
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@vetguy1991 Lol, yup.
Good he owes you that
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@BiasForAction I'm not sure he "owed" me anything, but it was nice to have a real conversation. 🙂
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
So ummm….

Why are you being like this?

🤣🤣🤣
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Ambroseguy80 🤣🤣🤣
That sounds very cool. There’s the possibility of mutual respect and maybe a friendship down the road. You schooled him.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard I feel almost bad for how harsh I was to him last week. When he walked up earlier tonight he looked beaten down. 🤷‍♀️
@sarabee1995 Don’t feel bad. He made it necessary, and it was a learning experience. Possibly the next time he approaches a woman he’ll do it with less arrogance.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard That is the hope. 🙂
