Can anyone tell me why concentrated antifreeze and prediluted 50/50 antifreeze cost the same? And who would be stupid enough to buy prediluted?

Both are around $12 bucks a gallon. With concentrate, mix it yourself with water and you get 2 gallons for $12 dollars. With 50/50 ready to use, 2 gallons cost $24. You're paying $12 for a gallon of water. IMO, 50/50 should cost half as much, OR concentrate should cost twice as much. 🤷🏻‍♂

You're paying for the convenience of it being mixed already. Some people (including myself) don't want to be bothered.
@MsSwan I get your point, but...but...🤭 you have to pour two gallons in the radiator anyway. What's the difference between pouring 2 gallons of prediluted antifreeze, OR one gallon of concentrate + 1 gallon of water? 🤷🏻‍♂
@RogueLodyte I guess you have a point, lol.
@MsSwan Yeah. I mean, the only way it makes any sense is if you need coolant, and no water is available...like what I just went through. Luckily, I carry a gallon of concentrate behind my truck seat all the time. So I poured in that gallon of concentrate to get me home, added a gallon of water later, bought another gallon, mixed it and now I have two gallons of mixed coolant behind the seat for $12.

Are you married?
@DownTheStreet I was, long ago. So I know what you are getting at. 🤭

I buy the mix. Just easier.

Your supposed to dilute it ?
@Medoesnotcare The "concentrated" version yes, with half water, just like canned soup. But it won't hurt anything if you use it full strength.🙂

Because we live in a world where car owner manuals warn you not to drink the battery acid 🤷‍♂

It's easier when traveling than buying the distilled water and mixing it in a parking lot. If you're adding coolent often enough that a gallon doesnt last you a year or more, you have much bigger problems. Coolent isn't a consumable.

@RogueLodyte Depends how loaded your water supply is. The area I'm in nowadays the water from wells is so hard and mineralized I wouldn't dare.
Either way, that's when 50/50 makes sense, when just topping off while traveling to get you were youre going and can get the leak fixed
@MethDozer Yeah, my brother says that in his vehicle, the coolant MUST be full for it to throw any heat, so he has to occasionally top it off.
One would think though, that concentrate would and should cost twice as much or 50/50 only half as much.

@RogueLodyte I hear ya.
