Sunflower oil as lube?

Is sunflower oil a good lube for pleasure? (Asking for a friend, giggle!)
MTC oil, or fractionated coconut oil, or liquid coconut oil, whatever name you have for it, I hear is pretty good. Tell giggle Hi for me.

You can, but it is recommended not to use oil based lubrication because it can breed bacteria and cause infections.

Oils can also stain your clothes and linens.

Your adding quite a few more steps to the cleanup stage. Go water based.

@LandOfOz I was told in school that in Ancient Greece, men would put olive oil on their bodies and scrape it off with a special blade as a way of removing sweat and other impurities off themeslves

If you are going to use cooking oils, use coconut oil, they say its the healthiest
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
Works great and its non toxic like the other kind
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
Probably not as good as baby oil.

The problem with sunflower oil is that it is an organic product, meaning it is the oil that is extracted from sunflower seeds after they are harvested.. 🌻

During the processing of sunflower oil, clear mineral oil is added to the sunflower oil to reduce it's natural viscosity from it being naturally thick and viscose, to becoming more like a runny fluid that can be poured from a bottle.

If I may use the automotive analogy of using straight 20W motor oil compared to 0W30 when intended for cold weather use, sunflower oil is like the 20W oil, whereas mineral oil is like 0W30 oil.

Straight sunflower oil looks like 20W motor oil when it comes dripping out of the sunflower seed press as the sunflower oil is being extracted, which is why mineral oil is added to it.

Mineral oil in comparison, like I said is like 0W motor oil.

When you add the sunflower oil and mineral oil together in a 50/50 mixture, your sunflower oil suddenly has the viscosity of 10W motor oil which as most of us know, can be poured from a can at -40 degrees in the dead of winter. Therefore, the purpose of adding mineral oil to the sunflower oil is to make it quickly pourable from a bottle.

The problem with using sunflower oil as a personal lubricant is that the sunflower oil and the mineral oil will separate from each other, which occurs when the mineral oil becomes directly absorbed into the skin, while the sunflower oil remains on the surface of the skin because it's own inherent viscosity will not allow it to become absorbed through the pores in the skin like mineral oil will do.

What you end up with after using sunflower oil as a lubricant, is the product separating unexpectedly as the mineral oil becomes absorbed into the skin, thereby leaving the thicker sunflower oil lying on the surface of the skin which becomes tacky if not washed off. Sunflower oil itself has got a stickiness to it like some motor oil additives and similar to summer chain saw blade oil.

That tackiness that you'll eventually feel from the residual sunflower oil as the fun begins and the friction becomes apparent against your skin, will not offer any lubrication value whatsoever because it suddenly behaves the opposite of what it was intended for in the first place! It will cause both people to stick together wherever the sunflower oil was applied!

If on the other hand you used straight mineral oil, it would offer some lubrication properties, but because mineral oil has a very thin viscosity, it becomes absorbed into the skin very rapidly, thereby reducing it's lubrication value to near zero very quickly. Now you're back to where you started.

Johnson & Johnson BabyOil is probably the best lubricant you can use on yourself if you can get past the smell of it, because BabyOil is a non-petroleum based manufactured product that is very slow to absorb into the skin in comparison to straight mineral oil.

As BabyOil does become absorbed however, it leaves behind a water-resistant film which is not tacky at all, but instead remains just as slippery as it was when liberally applied to the friction-exposed areas of concern in the first place.

How do I know these cool things about oil? I was raised on a farm and became the son my father never had and therefore, was forced against my will to learn these so-called "farming survival tactics" at a time in my life when I was still playing with Barbie. Some things we learn in life just don't leave us, no matter how hard we try, no matter how much therapy we endure!

I know that substituting motor oil with sunflower oil if you're desperate and no motor oil is available, will actually work as long as the RPM's are kept low and the vehicle isn't driven at highway speed. If it works in a car engine, I'd have high confidence that sunflower oil would also work at very low RPM in conditions where high levels of friction are continuous!
