Yeah back in the old days we had the news at the dinner hour and then right before bed - now you get 24/7/365/online/streaming

and of course they have to make the new sound bad so you'll keep watching

@Pretzel And none of it is really news -- just shouting heads giving opinions, listing what is trending, designed as entertainment. No stand-alone news departments with FCC requirements on budgeting, community coverage, equal time, etc.

@Pretzel Well, I go back to Edward R. Murrow, Paul Harvey on the radio. But it wasn't so much the individuals--although they were top flight objective journalists in their own right--but the way broadcast journalism was structure up to the early 1970's due to FCC requirements. Then the requirements were loosened, 60 Minutes showed you could monetize the news, and news became entertainment.
