While ending the relationship, if someone grieves that they wasted their time.

It's a little forceful, like the person is trying to get you to stay by soliciting. I just say let bygons be bygons.

That validity of that statement depends on your attitude. No time is wasted unless you choose to waste it. If you went through a relationship and never learned a thing or lived a single moment of it then that's on you. The final outcome doesn't render it a waste of time. We are not blessed with the ability to see into the future and hence our investments won't always bear fruit, but the experience itself gives you something.

All experiences can be learned from. I'm not sure I'd ever say gaining knowledge is a waste of time.
If it's friend or family expressing that grief, I'd ask if they are seeking advice or feedback or are they looking to vent. If the former, I'd try to compassionately help them recant what they've learned.
If it's a former partner, I'd ask myself if I need to put up a stronger distance boundary with this person, perhaps even no contact.

Well i guess its a good thing that its over for them since they wasted so much time already 🙄.. if they didn't enjoy spending time with you then it is a big waste of time on their part. Sheesh what did they expect? A house and three kids with an suv and diamond?

The reaction is what they want, and that level of selfishness is probably why the relationship failed in the first place.

You don't always need to have something to say, or be, in response.
How is it your problem they they made a bad decision, wasting their time and pretending it was love.
