Warning. Real talk.
Yesterday I returned to work after a week off for feeling under the weather.
I was ready, but did enjoy the time off to just breathe and distance myself from the chaotic drama that has become common in my workplace.
When I showed up, my boss yelled and held her arms out to embrace me even though both my hands were indisposed at the time. She then informed me that so much had happened.
With me not being there to keep the teens in line and filtered, they conducted themselves in the same manner as the parents being out of town for the weekend and felt a bit too untouchable in the process. Personalities very much revealed themselves, which brought about a lot of clashes with the adults in positions of power. Voices were raised. Threats were made. And tears were shed.
There were multiple declarations of the adults I’ve been protecting losing their minds at the stupidity and laziness that couldn’t help but show itself, along with childish tantrums followed by tears by those who are spoiled and have yet learned how to navigate their feelings.
But the main tea…yes, that’s what the 60-something year old owner referred to it as…is that the lovebirds are no longer together and will no longer be on the same shift this week as he prepares to go off to college to start a whole new chapter in his life. It’s a separation that needed to happen and a decision that he had come to me multiple times to help him with, but he finally gained the courage while I was gone to sever that tie. I have yet to see either one of them, but I do know the atmosphere itself has already changed without them even being there. Last night was lighter. Everyone felt lighter…less tense…and it was a change in vibe that everyone needed.
We only have two months left this season and maybe, just maybe we’ll get through it without anyone needing to step outside and scream at the top of their lungs to get their aggression out. Wishful thinking, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for that.
The week was beautiful, considering. But I do have to wonder how much stress played a part in my being ill for what’s going on nine days.
Did I mention the fate of where we’ll be living comes to a derision in two months also? That the owner who we’re leasing from is drawing up a new contract for us to sign next week, something I told her we can’t do until we have our lawyer look at it. But that the decision/commitment to buy has to come by October…when I don’t even consider myself a wife in this 28 year long partnership anymore.
2026 is a lot. Probably too much but hey…it’s better than 2025’s thinking that I was dying of cancer, right?
This girl just needs a break, man. A legit one. And one that’s not provoked by a week long stress illness that’s not going away it seems.
