I Am Lonely

I miss the old days on the internet, where there were good chatrooms and people were more friendly. It seems so different now. All of the good sites have shut down, and the only sites that remain are social media-based. I never used to have a hard time making friends online. Times change so rapidly.

My one friend and I always talk about the group we met in 2008. It was a Yahoo group called "Shine". It really was uplifting for the most part. We did get into it with politics at times, but because we were small, we all felt a kinship with each other. Believe it or not, many of us are still friends, even though most have bailed out of the chat circuit at this point. We all stay in touch on Facebook.

@Peapod I have the same experience. I still talk to a group of friends I met in a chatroom 10 years ago. Haven't found anything like it since. Any chat rooms that seemed promising were closed down throughout the years.

@Streamofconsciousness I know exactly what you mean. I did join Sodahead after our little group was shut down and made more lasting friendships there. Sodahead tanked too, even though it was as big if not bigger than this one. The graphics were amazing and we all had our own profile page that was worth a visit.

I guess it's normal to miss what's gone.

@Peapod Having a customised profile is what helped solidify the community. I used to frequent writing sites, and almost all of them have shut down or remodelled and stopped working properly.

@Streamofconsciousness it's such a shame because some of the most compelling subjects discussed were in those sites. Not having a profile page that really shows who you are kinda makes it hard to really get to know one another and appreciate their style.

I miss it all too.
