Who else is tired of cooking?

More and more each day I think about having to prepare a meal or meals for the coming week, and I'm at the point of avoiding preparing meals.

It has gotten worse since I became single, and it's at the point where if I didn't want a healthy diet, I'd stop cooking altogether.

I actually like cooking, not every day. I usually make something on Saturday and/or Sunday to have enough leftovers for my son and I the rest of the week. If there's a lot, I'll freeze some for days I'm too busy or lazy to cook, or run out half-way through the week.

I think it's fun to experiment and try new recipes. Even more so to make up your own recipes.
I'm experiencing very much the same thing.
I used to enjoy cooking when people would come over for a meal.
But hardly anyone visits anymore, and I've lost my culinary skills.

It's become easier to just take something out of the freezer or open a can, than to practice preparing a meal.

@BlueVeins Thanks.
I wish I could cook for everyone 🥰 I really like cooking from scratch now that I'm on my own and am able again.

Me!

After years and years it just feels like a chore, ugh. Not always, but mostly.

Have you ever tried any of those meal delivery services you can order?
Magenta · F
@Ontheroad I tried a few at one point. Just to see. I thought factor was pretty decent. You can cater them to your taste. And supposedly the meals are chef-prepared with fresh ingredients, never frozen, and free of artificial preservatives.

@Magenta what has me hesitating is that from what I can teel, there are basically two types of them.

One is basically fully prepared and you heat it up in the microwave. I've never liked food cooked in a microwave.

The other is the ingredients and you still have to prepare the meals. You still have to prepare the meal.

Feels like the two options left are to hire a cook, or keep on preparing my food.
Magenta · F
@Ontheroad I don't like microwaved either, but you can cook them in a conventional oven as well.
I enjoy cooking. But my work and school schedules of recent months have taken away the joy of trying new recipes. My mind just can’t process that anymore.

It is easier to cook something I could do with eyes closed (if you’re going to ask about that, yes, I could chop with eyes closed!)

Cooking is annoying. Clean up, prep. I avoid it.

Bean salads
Rice & beans
Homemade hummus on toast

Lots of meals are very very easy, just gotta know what you're looking for.
Ih GOSH !
I hear ya🙋‍♀
Im down to snacking in the evening on the equvalent of cartoucherie boards: stuff i like, cheeses, meats, fruit and veg..nuts etc: nibble food.(,sometimes jarred stuff like pickles or other marinated veg).

I kinda like it. It means i eat slowly and its easier to tell when im full. Plus i never have the guilt of not eating everything on my plate.

It also means i only have to cook a bit of meat, boil some eggs or buy a cooked chicken at the begining of the week.

When i finish work, im too buggered and its too late to cook - its gotta be easy, nutritional and yummy...
...and this is what has evolved.

It also makes me a bit more mindful about what my body is craving - i think about each and everything i choose tjat night that goes on the board. Sometimes i replace the protein with a little can of tuna or tofu.

And it has encouraged me to eat more fresh food.

Im almost DONE with cooking. Especially when its only for one person.... it's become tedious.

Anything i cook has to be under 30 minutes. I dont have the patience for it anymore.

Ive really come to love my snacky meals.
I can see why such an ancient way of eating never went out of fashion.

@OogieBoogie brilliant idea! I think this is the solution! Easy, no real prep time, minimal clean-up and quite simple to eat healthy this way. Brilliant, just brilliant!
@Ontheroad ikr ! 😄

I never intentionally meant for it to happen - it was an evolution of a self care concept, and nutrition.
i started putting small piles of nutritional stuff on my plate....and then i deleted the plate out of sheer laziness😏

Now i come home, pop open jars, dice some fruit and veg, (although im a big fan of berries), cut up some cheese or whatever....
Sometimes im make a dippy thing out of Greek yogurt and mayo, sometimes not.
- grab a glass of water and put on a movie.

I eat what i feel like eating, the rest goes back in the jars or whatever.
I kinda wish id thought of this years ago.

Side note: the other great thing is ...it stops you snacking on bikkies or chips later.
If there is stuff left .....its there, and you snack on 'it' instead.

The bread board becomes your meal tray/plate....its all in one.

I wash a board, a knife and a glass when im done🤷‍♀

Easy peasy lemon squeezey🤗

@OogieBoogie I seriously love this idea! I have no clue why I didn't think of it.

Plus, maybe 4 or 5 years ago I made a small black walnut Charcuterie board and have never used it.
