I Keep Too Many Things to Myself
Introvert and Midnight Snack

I usually spend the majority of a party playing with the host's kid, or in a quiet nook somewhere, or in a garden outside where there are big potted plants to hide behind. Literally anything is better than small talk. Because "the people weren’t half as interesting." I admit, getting past the barrier of small talk ranges from somewhat daunting to downright terrifying. So I oversimplify and say I don’t like people, when what I actually dislike are the surface-level interactions of social gatherings. I don’t hate people. I just hate shallow socializing. But sometimes, you have to start with some small talk, no matter how painful it might be. Sometimes I leave an event feeling drained and wishing that I had never left the house.
