Waved at someone who was definitely waving at someone behind me.
Had to pretend I was just really enthusiastic about the lightpole.

That happened to me at school. These popular girls waved at someone directly behind me. I waved and they quite boldly proclaimed "we're not waving at you!"
Thinking quickly i said "i was waving at him (mr nonexistent)" through the window directly behind them.
They were like "oh oh okay"
