Body shaming is not more egregious than modesty shaming

People are allowed to not want to see your body revealed to the world, for as much as you are allowed to be proud of it.

What prompted this was seeing an Instagram pile on over a couple of women saying that they don't particularly enjoy seeing fully naked women in the gym changing rooms. They didn't say that it should be banned and they didn't shame any bodies. They just preferred the more modest approach. They were savaged in the comments for daring to oppress full on vagene displays.

@HijabaDabbaDoo My sister-in-law invited me and my daughter, who was about 3 years old to meet her at a public swimming pool on campus so we could watch her 2-year old take a water babies swim class. I let my daughter get in the pool on the shallow end and splash around. When we went back to change her in the changing room for women a student stripped off naked to changed and walked out in front of us. My daughter started saying “that girl is naked and someone should spank her for that” 😂…….😖

@HijabaDabbaDoo I went swimming there some years later and the college students were still doing that. I heard male janitors say that they were sent over to the pool to clean when the one that worked there called in sick. Before they entered the women’s area to empty the trash and check toilets etc. they would yell to warn that they were coming in to clean to warn women to cover up. And there was usually one walking around butt naked saying that she didn’t mind him being in there working while she was there. He would turn around quickly and say that he would come back when the area was vacant. Didn’t want to get falsely accused of something.
