People are always missed. Even the invisible have a presence that is felt. If you walk through a crowd of people and don’t really notice any of them, that’s still very different than walking by yourself with no one around.
As you pointed out. It’s sensed in the lack of something we had grown accustomed to. It’s often a subtle difference that might not seem like all that much as we didn’t need it exactly, but we definitely prefer to keep the familiar around because however understated it might be, each and every connection to the outside world no matter how small is cherished by our heart in ways we don’t realize.
People will carry on regardless and on the surface it might seem like nothing really changed, but deep down there will be sadness when remembering the lost energies that brought them some sense of home. Many people I knew here are long gone and while everything is just fine without them, people aren’t meant for just fine and we never were.
