When did you last go to your old stomping ground, and had it changed much?

Lily Pond, but sadly, duckies have moved on.

It’s been about 8 years, they cut the big Willow tree down that was in front of my childhood home, that made me sad, I loved that Willow tree.

@Jeephikelove I love Willow trees, something special about trees anyway because of the age they live. How sad.

My friend and I visited the projects I grew up in a few years back in the summer. We didn't stay long, but as we were standing outside, a good sized bird fell from a telephone pole or wire almost right at our feet, dead. Was very strange. That place sickened me still, and the dead bird falling just made it seem worse.. It did look better but I could see the sadness and shame thru the coats of paint

@SW-User Not a place I would go back to again then, not after the bird experience. That would have certainly told me something like it was an omen.

In January I went to the city where I went to college. I had to drive past all our old haunts to get home,and I drove passed the college too, everything has changed in 35 years. All the restaurants and bars we used to go to are new restaurants or stores, and the college is so much bigger, it’s unrecognizable.

@Jenny1234 It's almost shocking how places change. It's like they cause our memories to become obsolete in doing so.
i pretty well still live in my stomping grounds....30 years ago we had 3 high rises....now we have 300 and still growing
SW-User
@beermeplease I still do. In fact my parents still live in the house they had my sister and me in. So many memories.

It was nearly 10 years ago. It looked pretty much the same, though a few pubs had closed. The people all looked like their parents though, and the men had no hair.
Go back every once in a while. Every time i go back, just reaffirms my decision was right to leave.

The year before Covid. The place is always changing and sadly not for the better. The people we sold our house to definitely don't keep it up.
I haven't been to my old stomping grounds since March 1998, almost 26 years, my friends still in Portland all tell me I'd no longer recognize my Beloved HomeTown anymore, that too many buildings have been demolished, too many businesses are gone, and that too many of the criminal element has taken over along with rampant homelessness.

@NativePortlander1970 Proves the old saying true - you just can't go home again.
@SW-User That we cannot :(
