Ever Felt Conflicted About Your Hometown?

Used to think Pierre, South Dakota where I am from was boring but now that I have lived in the hell hole known as Kansas, I am loving being back home. Ever felt like that?

I just feel a bit sad that the town I grew up in seems to have lost its way. All the optimism of the sixties, and even seventies, has gone. Nothing broken ever seems to get fixed, I see the same holes in the pavement every time I visit. The council seems hellbent on discouraging people from visiting the town centre by making it expensive to park a car and by doing nothing to make the main street attractive while at the same time encouraging the creation of soulless shopping parks on the outskirts.
miss living in NJ, my hometown and the shore. not a big fan of Pa but not a chance we can move

After living on Earth, Uranus is looking pretty darn good!

I've only ever lived in the same place that I was born. Yes, certainly, I have moments that I am bored of the place and the people, but I go on holiday, I come back and then appreciate it a little more.

That make sense?

For me moving to the cities offered convenience but it's nice to go back up north for the quitet and some familiar faces.
Cities are lonely places if you don't know anyone.

Btw I have been to Pierre. I liked the drive there from Rapid City.

I left to attend college, lived in many states before moving back here after 20 years. My experience is the same as yours. It was great to be home.
Sometimes it takes seeing the grass on the other side to realize you didn’t have it so bad after all

I don't like to visit my hometown, but I will be there briefly next week. Although racism is not as prevalent as when I lived there, it is still noticeable. Homophobia is not even hidden.

@ChadJNSD You know absolutely nothing about me or my attitude toward life.

@exexec Ok. then stop commenting on my posts and playing the race card.

@ChadJNSD The "race card" is an observation based on people I know quite well and the attitudes they express to me. Racism is a reality. I grew up as a racist. I will gladly stop commenting and communicating with you.

All the time. I never left. It's my home, there are plenty of things I love here but I want to experience something different...yet I fear that I'd feel lost and lonely anywhere else.
I'd also have to use foreign language wherever I'd go.
like .. its a dirty shithole with no prospects?..
