I feel sw is full of people with confederate flags on their porch

@Iwantout Occasionally I’ll hear someone say, "It’s about Southern Pride !" I’ve asked, "What exactly does that flag embody that you’re proud of ?" I don’t think I’ve ever received a straight answer. 🤔

@bijouxbroussard I've posed that question a lot too. The best I can come up with is that it's about doing things their own way, more traditionally, against any "woke" values. It's hard for me to accept tbh, but given half the country is of that nature, I try and listen. Normally when I start talking with someone, they say something that makes me respond "What? You don't really think that....You seem so reasonable."

@originnone That’s what is so funny about it. Being "woke" meant not being racist. So they’re finally admitting what many of us always knew—"Southern Pride" is white supremacy ? The slavery, the lynchings, the Jim Crow segregationists, systematic racism—everything they’re now trying to block being taught about in schools down South ?

@bijouxbroussard I don't know if anyone has the confederate flag on their state flag anymore, but when I was a kid, I couldn't believe it.....and I really didn't understand any of the things black people wen through post civil war at the time. We were taught nothing about it.

@originnone I know. Black History week (initially, then Month) came into being because no one was being taught about our history and the contributions of black Americans to our country.

I remember on EP a white poster insisting there should also be "white history month" even though that was the default U.S. History being taught already. I told him, "We’ve had ‘White History Year’ each year in every school !" He called me a racist and blocked me. 🤦🏽‍♀️
