"Cis" is a Latin prefix meaning "on the side of/this side of". It's also used in chemistry, right alongside "trans", which means "the other side of". This is called cis-trans isomerism, and it's used to describe the arrangement of atoms within molecules. I've found that people who get offended at the term cisgender just don't realize it's simply a basic description using a Latin prefix
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@BigAssLeech I have no problem with the actual word. My issue is the double standard and hypocrisy that goes along with how the word is used and by whom.
BigAssLeech · 31-35, M
@SumKindaMunster I have trans and queer friends, and I go to pride events with them every year. I'm heterosexual and cisgender. I have never encountered a double standard or hypocrisy with the use of the term cisgender as a description of my gender identity. Because I am, by definition, cisgender. It's a weird thing to be offended by.
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@BigAssLeech I find it wierd because I'm 50+ and never even heard of the 'cis' term until this year, and 'trans' I knew of but don't know and trans people. I know a non-binary person who was born a girl and is now identifying as a male (one of my adult children). I've never studied or learnt any Latin.

@BigAssLeech I guess the term just doesn't make sense unless you actually go to places where someone needs to know what is your biological sex. The question arises, why do they need to know? Why is it important?
Torsten · 36-40, M
@CrazyMusicLover if people for some reason need to know your biological sex, cisgender is not a answer. Its either male or female
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@BigAssLeech
Really? So if I used the word "tranny" or just called an MTF "dude" or "sir" there wouldn't be any offense taken? That's not my experience.
To clarify(for the last time) I am not offended by the actual word. Rather it is the hypocrisy and double standard that exists where I am expected to honor a person's choice of how to be addressed, but for some reason my preference of how I want to be referred to is invalid and I should just be ok with it being called a derogatory term that transgenders made up to refer to me.
That's the height of hypocrisy and I will not have any part in it.

@CrazyMusicLover It's not important save for a very small but loud and ridiculous portion of society who are being promoted because it furthers the cultural divide in America.
BigAssLeech · 31-35, M
@SumKindaMunster Tranny is a slur. Purposefully misgendering someone is rude and unnecessary. Your preference of being addressed as he/him and identifying as a binary, cisgender man is valid. You can say that you don't identify as cisgender, but that is literally what you are. Cis isn't a pronoun. Nobody is going to call you "cis" except in the context of a conversation about gender.
Torsten · 36-40, M
@BigAssLeech cisgender is a new term coined up by a women in a essay in 1998. It is not a real term and one people do not have to accept. It is only used to make transgender people feel better about being a very small minority and dont like when people call themselves straight.
That is all it is and its ridiculous
Sorry it was coined by a man apparently

BigAssLeech · 31-35, M
@Torsten Oh no, how dare a woman coin a term in 1998 to....describe the state of identifying as the gender you were assigned at birth? Weird dude
Torsten · 36-40, M
@BigAssLeech it was a man as I corrected but the point is one person came up with that idiotic label and people act as if its a actual legitimate way to describe straight people. Its dumb as shit

@BigAssLeech While disappointed in your reply, I am not surprised. I want to thank you for revealing your indoctrination and bias on this issue. I have nothing to be ashamed of and walk away even surer in my position.
I've noted again and again, the rank hypocrisy of transgenders and their "allies".
I feel a touch of pity for you, for you truly don't understand how you've been indoctrinated. Perhaps someday in the future you will reflect back on this and understand my position.

@CrazyMusicLover its a bullshit made up term. But hey if one person can make legit terms that everyone has to except, I now identify as super straight
BigAssLeech · 31-35, M
@SumKindaMunster Please go outside and actually talk to other human beings, I'm begging you
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@BigAssLeech I talk to plenty of people. I've spoken to some of the older transgender population and they have NO issue with my position and accept it.
Check your own indoctrination and consider my message about what "tolerance" truly means...it certainly doesn't mean I need to put up with being called a derogatory term by a small, but deluded and vocal portion of the population.

@Torsten Isn't it fascinating to watch people like this demand tolerance, respect and understanding for their beliefs....while simultaneously supporting propaganda shaming your race or gender?
When they get frustrated and start attacking you with names or being condescending is when you know you have provoked "cognitive dissonance" in them...the discomfort that arises when two or more contradictory beliefs are held at the same time...
