Now you can do what you want. I try not to hold grudges with my parents too much. I somewhat feel now that I'm an adult, I didn't get much heads up about the real things in life, drugs, sex, how men can be, or the importance of college or good grades. I was the oldest, so I didn't have any older siblings to learn from. My mom was one of those who acted like bad things didn't exist in the world. Now that I'm an adult, I realize I was a bit sheltered, not too bad, but in a small way I probably was.

There is only one way through this. You have to quietly and in private forgive them. Not to their face they don’t have to hear you. But you need to forgive that they did you wrong without meaning to do you wrong. Once you’ve done that a weight will come off your heart
I know this pain very well

You just have to move on because they decided what they decided. But you can pick how you move on and experience the things you didn't get to experience :)

[c=002673]Try looking at it this way.
You were held down for sixteen years. Now, in spite of that, you are overcoming all of those barriers your parents put in front of you.
Also, they set those barriers in an attempt to protect you. [/c]

you don't. but you realize your parent(s) were very scared for you. and you go out and swim and climb and ride your bike - and enjoy yourself

Maybe if you were pushed to try those things… you wouldn’t have been ready and/or wouldn’t have experienced them the same

I dunno

Just let it go. I have a refrigerator magnet that says, "Don't let a good today be spoiled by a bad yesterday. Let it go."
You can focus on the present.

And be grateful that you have your freedom now. And enjoy everything life has to offer.
