That's such an important truth. No matter what life throws at us, whether it's a bad performance review or a surprise injury that ends our dancing career, we always have control over how we respond. I've seen dancers completely shattered when they got injured and couldn't perform anymore. But the ones who chose to keep moving forward, even if it meant changing careers, they're the strongest.

My daily mantra: 'You wont survive prison, you wont survive prison.'
MrSmartyPants · 46-50, M
Yeah, the Stoics would say something similar, the beginning of Epictetus' Handbook for example.

@MrSmartyPants That sounds quite interesting

@Luke73 Yeah, he's my fave of the 3 main Stoics, others being Seneca and Marcus Aurelius, they help me relax, and not let things get to me too much.

@MrSmartyPants It can really help to be reminded of that sometimes

These quotes all seem so wise, untill you live long enough and realize they are really just privileged ideals.
There are SO MANY things in life that decimate such thinking: poverty, fear, desperation, crisis, disaster, death, homelessness to name a few.
Believe me, sometimes there is no choice. You just do what you can🤷♀

@OogieBoogie You can feel powerless but you still can choose how you act then. We’re still in charge of our actions.

@Luke73 i respect your view, but there truly are things in life that are more extreme than, (i think), you are imagining.
So ill end my argument here, as i dont want any ill feeling to develop over just personal view points.
Remaining possitve is always good 👍😊

Not when people are controlling your life
Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F
@Luke73 I didn’t react to it but I can’t get out of this situation that I’m in because I’m not financially well off they control my finances
Luke73 · 26-30, M
@Birdbox1986 I‘m sorry that you’re in that situation. I hope the best for you. And I mean that for example it’s up to you how you spend your money, you can go and buy thousands of dollars worth of sweets because they taste nice.
Birdbox1986 · 31-35, F
