I really think how we view people is how we actually view ourselves

SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I think it's a bit more complicated than that so I think it's kind of a half truth in regards to people with a very victim mentality but not all the way true. If you grew up in a part of a third world where prostitution of children were legal and you were sold as a child, then your only experiences of people would just be that and you would develop your experiences and views based around that.

If you were part of a country that had a tourist trade in a predominantly black country where citizens live well below poverty levels and it's mostly a white tourist rich trade where none of that money goes to citizens but to the tourism industry, you'd also have different experiences.

You got to remember that for every person has a good or bad side. One person may be great to you but they could be a villain to someone else and could be the same to you. Sure, I think some of the hatred that one may have to you personally would be totally unjustifiable, some people just want to bully others but you can't tell me that at least some fights that you've had wasn't because of something you did, we all do things to someone at some point in our lives.

If you're surrounded by strife, you only have output that others give you so I feel like this isn't 100% true though it is true for certain personality types.

You have to remember that Anna was very young when she wrote that. It's typical of the idealism of youth. I probably would have said the same thing at her age. As I got older, experience of people made me modify that view somewhat.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@SW-User it's also my attitude. But when you consider her circumstances I don't buy your excuse of age

@Axeroberts I don't recall whether she wrote that while in the concentration camp or before... Maybe she was just that kind of person who always looks on the bright side no matter what happens. Believing that one's abusers are really good people inside could also be a survival technique.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@SW-User she wrote it in hiding knowing the gestapo were coming after her as a Jew

Generally I don’t really believe that most people are good at heart anymore, well I’m not sure I ever did.
Bobboo78 · 46-50, M
@Aidan were are you as you seem to be very nice
Aidan · 26-30
@Bobboo78 I try my best to be as nice as I possibly can.

“It is a terrible thing, this kindess that human beings do not lose. Terrible, because when we are finally naked in the dark and cold, it is all we have. We who are so rich, so full of strength, we end up with that small change. We have nothing else to give. ”
― Ursula K. Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness

@ElRengo hi are you in great Yarmouth
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@Bobboo78
No
South America
I think this applies in the context of similiar personalities.
Magenta · F
I don't believe that quote but absolutely what you wrote. We project ourselves onto others far far more than we realize.
Bobboo78 · 46-50, M
@Bobboo78 hi i am well thank you
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Magenta groovy 🤣 love it
Bobboo78 · 46-50, M
@MartinTheFirst hows you were you from
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
Truth. It’s why I relentlessly got hurt and prefer to keep to myself these days. I refuse to stop believing in good people no matter how many wads I come across.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
@Axeroberts Yes I did. She’s an inspiration. There was another guy, I read his book, I can’t think of his name… he was in a prison camp and talks about keeping himself alive by not letting the torture and fear get to him. When your heart is made that way, nobody can break you.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@AlchemyFox almost sounds like Nelson Mandela
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
@Axeroberts His name is Viktor Frankl, I just looked it up. Very difficult read, but opened me up to research more about holocaust and burning times and slavery and pretty much the history of humanity. There will always be tyrants and they will never infect everyone. There will always be opposition. Best to stay true, even if it kills you.
originnone · 61-69, M
You are dead on.
Bobboo78 · 46-50, M
@originnone wot you meen you dead on
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@originnone thank you
ravenhill · M
not always, often the way we view others is independent of the self and nothing to do with how we see ourselves.
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
Anne Frank was just a little girl.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@FlowersNButterflies she was a Jewish girl being hidden by a Dutch family during WWII. She was eventually found by the German's. I would imagine she knew a lot more than most of us about life and death and people. Just my guess
FlowersNButterflies · 61-69, F
@Axeroberts That is all true. However, she was still just a little girl.
Bleak · 36-40, F
I don’t view anyone. Viewing wrong and then assuming can be harmful
And yet she also spoke frankly about her family’s experiences in a Nazi-Occupied country. Surely she wasn’t claiming that as their fault ?
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
people are not good at heart
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Axeroberts It's not negative. It's simply realistic. It takes a lot of effort and practice for a person to be any kind of good, it's not just something everyone is.
Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@MartinTheFirst it's your reality but not mine
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@Axeroberts alright...
