I really think how we view people is how we actually view ourselves

You have to remember that Anna was very young when she wrote that. It's typical of the idealism of youth. I probably would have said the same thing at her age. As I got older, experience of people made me modify that view somewhat.

@Axeroberts I don't recall whether she wrote that while in the concentration camp or before... Maybe she was just that kind of person who always looks on the bright side no matter what happens. Believing that one's abusers are really good people inside could also be a survival technique.
