How did you get over a heartbreak

Carissimi · 70-79, F
When my soulmate was murdered, I was left completely alone with no help or emotional support from anyone. I was a broken mess, and howled like a dying animal every morning when I woke up to the nightmare. I didn’t want to wake up, but then would think of my little children without their mother. I kept going for them because I could not bear them to suffer the heartache that I was going through, if they lost me too. You have to have a thread to hold onto, and unfortunately feel the pain while you hold on.
@Carissimi I’m so sorry

Thank you. It was a long time ago, and I’ve had many heartbreaks since then, but whatever hurts you, that thread is vital to hold on to, whatever that is for you. @Creep

Tequila. And bitter tears. Only took me 30 years.
Not sure it ever quite goes away. Each person that comes into your life touches you and effects you in a different way. So each one breaks you in a different way if they hurt you. But each still stays with you to some degree

Find a new purpose and let it keep you busy.
@NickiHijab Like what.
NickiHijab · F
@Creep anything that interests you.
The idea is to put yourself out there in front of other people. Not to replace them but to find value in making new connections and new skills.
@NickiHijab Got it.

I don’t think it’s something I ever really get over. It’s kind of always there teaching me in some way. Guiding me to new paths of healing and growing instead of living too much in the what if’s. But accepting it for what it is, feeling what demands to be felt, not feeding the anger and pain by placing blame on anyone, and bathing myself in a ton of light through distractions and things I find enjoyment in does help me get from one breath to the next.

Just keep plugging along and try to keep myself occupied with other things

Depends on the context of the relationship really. A generic, but effective answer might be that I focused on taking care of myself, trying to learn something from the experience, focusing on either hanging out with my support system or getting involved in the community if my support system sucked at the time, and just getting out there, creating space in my life to make new, positive memories.

each time it was a different scenario, one I cried my heart out everyday for a year I was a totall mess I hated everyone who contributed to that breakup I wanted revenge but I was too weak at that point to do anything about it. after that I started doing small creative activities to keep myself busy and lift my mood I eventually felt fine but can't say I'm 100% over it yet even tho about 8 years has passed since that one.

I, fortunately, have never been completely heartbroken. I've been upset and disappointed when a relationship doesn't work out, but never heartbroken. My last ex broke up with me because I let my brother choose our dog's name.

time and distraction
Miram · 31-35, F
I live with it. Only one person managed to break my heart..The rest were just messing with already bleeding wounds.
@Miram So you never got over it?
Miram · 31-35, F
@Creep Nope.
@Miram I feel ill never get over this ether , I messed up.
Torsten · 36-40, M
lots of Whisky and being around good friends and family. Distraction i think is key. Only time I think fully heals heartbreak
I dont think you ever truly do
@Creep what i mean is that, each relationship leaves us with memories, with more baggage, with more pain... and even if after a while we sort of get iver it, we live with the fear that the past will duplicate itself. We are left with wounds and scars from those previous relationships regardless of how it ended.
