this actually happened...

I went out on a date once.

she was a barista at a coffee shop that I used to study at. we got acquainted, chit chatted; would have conversations with over text (after we exchanged phone numbers). I assumed I was in the "friend zone" and I was cool with that. after all, I wasn't even looking.

one day, she asks me out. (I was happy as hell!) we meet at the restaurant, look over the menu and decided we would "Dutch it out". she orders all of these appetizers and wine and shit; I'm keeping it simple on my budget thinking that she must have a lot of money for HER half. it's date, but we're not dating. we're two friends out and about, trying to make this potentially into something. this was a verbal agreement beforehand.

server brings the check, she looks at it, belches, and slides it over to me. "you got me, boo? I left my purse at home." damn. I did the shadiest thing ever. I calculated my half, took the check to one of the hostesses with a special message: "here you go, the girl at that table will cover the rest." ran to my car and just left.

not ALL women are like this, but some definitely are.

Ah, those wonderful embarrassing moments where the bill is bigger than you anticipated. My boss used to take us on special occasions to the very first original Trader Vic's. He and Trader Vic had been college buddies. We always got best seats, wonderful service, and I never saw the prices. I decided to take my bride there for dinner to really impress her. Stuck at a table near the kitchen, prices were way above my pay grade, and this was before credit cards. I barely was able to cover the tab, seriously under-tipped the waiter, leaving me with a quarter for the valet. We got in the car, as the valet closed my door, I pressed the quarter in his hand and laid rubber going out.

different circumstances, but appreciate the story

You did not, of course, do anything "shady". The "I seem to have left my wallet at home", or some similar excuse, sure isn't at all exclusive to women. I know you didn't say it was.

That was smart. If you agreed to go Dutch and then she pulls that she is no good anyway.

@Doomflower
I wasn't upset with her because she had no money. I was upset because she basically lied.

@Jeremi right!!! She was scamming you.

@Doomflower
damn right she was...

Did you stop going for coffee at that place and block her number? Or did you see her/hear from her after that?
Jeremi · 41-45, M
@SW-User
I quit going to that coffee place

Hell yeah make her pay that shit
Jeremi · 41-45, M
@MURD3RM0NK3Y
she had to pay for her half.
👏, that's awesome
