I Want to Be a Better Person

If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?
xixgun · M
Overall, more income to the household. This would lead to better nutrition for all residents of household, ability to afford lessons for subjects children in the household are interested in, ability to afford necessary tools for continued education outside of the classroom.

Greater involvement by both parents, rather than locking a child in their bedroom and forcing them to write multiplication tables 100 times each. That may be considered child abuse today, and I wasn't real thrilled with it at the time, but I survived it with no lasting damage.

@xixgun May you're able to provide good life and education for your kids.
xixgun · M
@Madeleine I went one better. No kids.

I was born at the end of WWII. If I had my way and could change the past, my otherwise intelligent parents would've dropped out of the Communist Party (CPUSA) at the time of the Hitler-Stalin Pact in 1939.

@greenmountaingal Wow, that's deep!
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@Madeleine The CP ruined my life. For details, you can read my Featured story.

Nothing. I was raised in a very caring and loving home.

More time with my grandfather.

My mom had two kids when she married my dad, then had three more. It didn't work. It works for some families, but it added stress, disfunction and unhappiness to ours.
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@SW-User That's unfortunate. I come from a big family too, I wouldn't say we're unhappy, but my parents didn't have enough time to focus on each one of us.
I would have liked to have been locked in my room with all my toys forever and never allowed to leave the house or forced to go to school.
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@LittleBlueAngelBoy Nice plan!
I was fine until I went to kindergarten.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@LittleBlueAngelBoy I was a school hater as a kid. Amazing that I grew up to be a teacher.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
I had a good up bringing, I made a few mistakes in life but have learned from them and they were no part of the way I was raised
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@MarineBob That's good to hear.
tindrummer · M
I'm sure you can guess because we've discussed it before.
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@tindrummer Yeah.. I would wish what you had though.
tindrummer · M
@Madeleine For yourself? Perhaps, but actually experiencing it might change your mind.
Carissimi · 70-79, F
I’d be loved, wanted, and encouraged to do well, and when I did do well, it would be recognized.
nem16 · 36-40, M
My mum wouldn't have died when I was 9 years old..
Madeleine · 41-45, F
@nem16 I'm sorry.
nem16 · 36-40, M
@Madeleine Thanks,my dad was and forever will be a great man,but growing up with only one opinion,one way of thinking was hard.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
Inch shorter
ReneeT · 61-69, M
I wouldn't be who I am today so I can't say I would change anything
