The miss(cousin) - under(the bridge) - standing..

This was the time when we didn't had mobile phones. I was an university student, one evening, I was told to pickup my cousin sister from the railway station of our city, as she was coming by a long route train to our city for an examination after completing her schooling. This was an overnight journey. As she was coming first time to our city, one of her uncle was accompanying her up to the city station. As the uncle was a businessman and was coming for his business trip, I was told to reach the station before time and pickup my cousin from the railway platform(just as they un-board the train), so as to relieve the uncle asap so he can go for his business work. I was told that the uncle comes often to our city to purchase some items and goes back by the evening train. The uncle just agreed to accompany her till our city station, but he didn't wanted to wait at the railway station. I have met my cousin several times, but had never met her uncle before.

So I slept timely, woke up early and left for the station. The train was scheduled to arrive at 8:00 AM. I reached station at 7:30 AM and was happy I reached before time. I was bit bored waiting at the platform. Then they made an announcement that the train is delayed and will arrive at 9:00 AM. After waiting for an hour, I was feeling bit hungry as I didn't had anything in breakfast in the hurry to reach station timely. I thought I have enough time to get something to eat. As the shops inside the station used to sell at much higher prices and I was miser and a student that time, so I decided to get something from outside the station. I had been there several times and knew the area very well. There was a local market just 200-300 meters away. I grabbed a cheap snack and headed back towards station eating as I was walking.

When I reached the station at 8:55 AM, I was surprised to see that the train has already arrived and people has already stated to un-board. I figured out that there is only one foot over bridge that everyone has to go through to come outside the platform. There was huge rush of people coming from the platform to the bridge, as everyone was in hurry to go outside the station. I realized no one coming from platform has yet left the station. I was moving against the direction of crowd looking for my cousin. I stopped at the top of the bridge and started to look at the crowd from there, as it was the only way I could not miss them.

After a while I identified my cousin in the crowd heading towards the bridge and one man moving along her carrying a big suitcase. I understood that he is the uncle and carrying her suitcase. I started moving down towards the platform not missing them from my sight. I was thinking that the uncle will be angry because I was late and he had to carry her bag and climb the stairs in this much crowd. I reached them when they were in middle of stairs of the bridge. I greeted the uncle, said sorry for the delay, and tried to take the suitcase from his hand. He hesitated and resisted. I thought he didn't heard me correctly as there was much noise. So I again introduced myself and said sorry for the delay. I had not released the hold of suitcase handle by then, so I again tried to take the suitcase from him after repeating my words. It was too much noise there and he might have not heard me properly. He again resisted and got fearful. Then my cousin told me he is not her uncle.

I realized I was trying to grab the suitcase from the wrong person. And he must be thinking I am a robber. I was stronger than him and had almost snatched the suitcase from him. I immediately said sorry to him and released my grip on suitcase. He moved forward and I felt relaxed. I asked my cousin, where is her uncle, she pointed out, he was way behind her.

I am reminded of when I was 6yo. My mother took me to a department store to do some shopping. While she was browsing, I let go of her hand and wandered off. As was my habit, I became engaged with the important task of looking for toys. Finally, finding some, I played a while. Suddenly, I realized it had been a while since I saw Mum and started looking for her.
I saw her up ahead recognizing her big white cardigan from behind. I walked over and reached up and took her hand. She looked down at me and smiled, but she was NOT my mum. I recoiled in embarassed horror.
I started running around screaming Mom! Mom! She found me. I had NO IDEA how WRONG that could have gone!

@Guardian As a 6yo, it was horrible for you. But I am sure your Mom had definitely found you in few minutes, she knew you must be busy with some stuff.
