Have you ever been successful at convincing someone to stop doing something bad?

I'm afraid someone I care about is going to run into trouble one day.

Well, more to the point that she stopped doing them but, yes, my eldest had a huge appetite for drink and drugs. I can't take the accolades, the doctors should. They said if she didn't stop drinking she would die within 9 months and, she did stop.

But she said all the years that she did listen and take my advice afterwards. It's been, what? 15 years or something like that, now.

I'm very proud of her.

My friend bought a vape randomly. He has no previous history of smoking and simply wanted to try it out. As he was vaping, he kept saying stupid stuff like, "I can really see myself getting into this" and "This is actually really addictive!" probably trying to sound cool, I guess? but I ended up convincing him to stop after a few minutes of listening to him act like he's addicted to coke.

Everybody's on their own path.
If you follow a path without ever questioning whether or not you should be, then there's every chance it'll end badly......and they know it.

You have no control over people where they end up . You might at times be a help , but at times they’d have to hit there own rock bottom .
Then there able to listen .
I’ve been there with people .
People have been there with me .
I’m still here .
Worrying is non sense .
A waste of time and what your worrying about at times might never happen.
Just tell the person , your at the end of the phone for them . That’s if you can handle it . Sometimes you will and sometimes you won’t .
Do you know what the worst thing in the world for people which cause fierce and unnecessary pain “” Lack of communication “

I convinced a friend not to cheat on his wife. He just cheated later on... the next time his ex was in town.

I feel like darkness is inevitable for some people.

No ...in the past I've gotten too involved with people's drama and nothing good came from it so lessons learned...I mind my own business now

I dunno, I'm a pretty good mom and when I tell my kid to cut something out it's always respected.

Yes but it always required... FORCEful terminology and a well timed smack in the stupid spot.

No one ever wants to heed warnings of impending peril sadly. I guess just repetition, repetition, repetition. It'll sink through at some point. Even the band on Titanic eventually realized that they had to do SOMETHING besides just play music as they plunged into the Atlantic. Just hope your friend doesn't take it to that kind of extreme though 😅

Yes, but it really depends on the person and why they're doing the bad thing.
sometimes, I have strange convincing powers

No. I have spoken up before and tried but it's never stopped anybody.
