Starting High School next year...

Starting High School next year, getting anxiety about it as I am going to a school where I know NO ONE and I'm moving 30 minutes away.. I really need some advice as I am very awkward in social situations and not sure on how to cope with these situations. Any answers are appreciated :).

A few things...first realize that everyone flips the heck out over starting high school, especially in a situation where you don't know ow the vast number of people who will be there. Everyone shares the feelings you have, so don't feel alone.

But as I tell students starting college, it is also an amazing opportunity. Nobody knows you. You can define yourself however you want without preconceived notions. It's almost like a fresh start for you. Take advantage of that.

Get involved and be active. I know it is hard if you see yourself as socially awkward, but being active in club, groups, etc. Helps make friends, gets you meeting faculty members you can talk to and all that. And that, in turn, gets you feeling more at home in your new environment.

Last, just like business folks should surround themselves with professionals, make sure you find people that share your vision for success. There's a lot of people going a lot of different directions in high school. Find the ones going the same direction you want to go.
