Letting him hate you a little might work (don't purposely self-sabotage though, obviously). It will be easier for him to move on/accept the break and find some solace. But honesty is the best policy, especially since it's over the phone. Just tell him how you feel and why you want to break up.

And be kind. Heartbreak is hard.

I have had to break up with a lot of different people, and it sucks no matter what you do. Believe me. The trying to make them hate you approach is the worst, imo. It helps neither of you, and costs you a possible friend. Be kind, but be aware that you will probably both still feel awful. There really isn't a way around that.

Just be upfront about why
ok thank you

Be honest. That's it.

Just tell him how you feel about the ways it's going. I've been in a long distance relationship before its hard but you have to do what's right for both of you

tell him you tried and you don't want to waste any more of his time

be honest with him...
Ugghhh... did he do something to deserve this ? You don't just draw someone in and then tell them ohh I can't do this.
the more i knew about him the more i realized he was not the right one for me
@AliceinWonderland: Well, he would most probably take it hard if he's really into you.
Just tell him the truth. I ain't gonna sugar coat it. There is no nice way to break up. And do not say 'let's just be friends'.
don't worry. I'm not going to break up with you! 💙
@AliceinWonderland: [c=#BF0080] It's just.. I completely understand you. I don'thave the courage to do that but I really want to.[/c]
@roslvsyou: i have to do it because i don't want to waste his time or my time. and the longer i wait, the more it will hurt me and him.
