How do you give autistic children a firm hand the first day?

I will work on an all autistic school starting towards the end of July because staff have to get prepared for the 22/23 school year.
My last day of my current job was last Friday. I resigned because that school wasn’t treating me fair so I will work at a different school. I was told that the first time I work with kids, Be kind and be friendly give them a firm hand on day one. I don’t wanna first worked with the kid I work one on one, I made sure he was with me at all times when we go for a walk if you needed one but the problem was that the teacher saw it was the alone run around doing whatever he wants and I’m not firm enough with him. One of the teachers I work with says that everyone in the meeting was talking about that and how I just let him and the kids push me over and I had no control. They said I was too nice and I need to start being “mean” like take charge and set boundaries and be assertive because I wasn’t doing my job and if you could jump on the table when I did nothing to stop it. They said if I couldn’t do that then they’re not gonna let me work at the school and revoke my contract. The kid I worked with is hey told me don’t let him use autism as an excuse to misbehave and do whatever he wants. I mean I’ve got better and better at being firm. I’m asking because I’m gonna be working on a different school.

I have autism, but I still think everyone needs to be respectful. Don't yell, but tell them what they are doing is wrong.

@Manfredthemanic But what if they don’t listen and they push your boundaries?
