Isn't that the book where some guy tries to murder one of his kids as a sacrifice? Also where another guy's wife gets turned into a pillar of salt after being put out of her home?

Read that one a long time ago. Entertaining stories, but don't take it too seriously

I don't recall that Bible passage. My opinion: As an adult, both parents' focus should be on their children, not thenselves.

I don't think it's even a matter of opinion. Humans are biologically wired to put their kids first. It's instinctive. Any parent who doesn't feel that way is simply messed up. It's not normal.
@drymer Put another way, yes.

Uhm what?

If I understood this correctly... my job as a mother is to be a mother first. My children will always come first.

I would not like that.I am not as versed as you perhaps in the Bible but never heard that.I know, love your neighbor as yourself.I follow that

sounds like the church of self, to me. definitely one to keep away from.
With the family the word is "together"

or forget it. It won't work otherwise.

I wrote that cause its true.

Amen

Hope you can find a way to have your family and keep it too!🤗

How would I feel? I'd be certain I married a selfish psychopath, and I'd be plotting my way out of the relationship... And to quote the Bible as a was to justify the psychopathic selfishness is the icing on the cake. Seriously, this person is VERY messed up and things won't end well.

It all depends on the context. If it was said because the spouse was envious of the love you give to your kids, then that wouldn't be good.

My ex used to tell me not to see friends and family, as he should be all I needed. I ended the relationship knowing I could never have kids with a man like that.
@meggie You're smart. Wish I would have been that smart, but for me it's still not too late.
@meggie or your FREEDOM would have been all u needed

That would have given me another reason to leave the church. I’d consider any teaching that would encourage me to abandon my children evil.
