What do I look for when shopping for a decent skateboard?

My 10 year old daughter likes skateboarding. For Christmas this year she asked if she could get a new one. The last 2 years I got her a skateboard from Walmart and she would like one thats a little nicer this time.

All I know is that I buy the board separate from the rest of it. What are some good brands for the board and the other parts? I need something decent, but not too expensive. I figured I'd order from Amazon.
