Should I take the leap?

My dad used to read to me before bed every night. I was obsessed with books as a child. As I grew older, I started writing. One thing led to another and, by the end of high school, I had studied dozens of movies and written dozens of screenplays.
Now, I am at a crossroads.
I have the option of pursuing a career in health sciences. In terms of employment, it is the safest way to go. On the other hand, I love writing, and I want to be a screenwriter (or at least work alongside screenwriters) but I don't want to look back in fifty years and think to myself, why the hell didn't I become a scientist/doctor/researcher?
Should I take the leap and go for writing? Or should I play it safe, and continue with health sciences?

I would suggest doing both and spend time making connections in the screenplay biz. Statistics indicate someone your age will change careers between 6 to 8 times....why not do 2 things you love at the same time. Chase your dreams, just use some common sense along the way! GOOD LUCK!!!!

@charlie3825 anything in the "Arts" is really difficult. Sometimes you get more attention locally and can blossom there rather than being a " little fish in a big pond" I know that's for sure true in music and theater.

@FORMERLYbatovn Have you worked in music and theatre?

@charlie3825 I'm a musician, but I know a good number of people that have been involved in local theater as well as music scenes. I used to live in Wisconsin, but I've lived in the greater Nashville area for 6 yrs as well
