Where are some good places to get a decent used car?

Are buying cars that are repo cars good or bad? What about bidding cars in ebay. Ive tried let go and offer up and found very few. I just need a car to drive from a to b.

Depends upon where you live. IE: In some states (like mine) a dealer/dealership has to charge you sales tax. In my town, sales tax on a $5000 car is $390.00, so now the car is $5390. Many think that cars at dealers are somehow "better" cars. They aren't... yes dealers take cars in on trade (ask yourself why the person wanted to trade the car in), but they also source cars from auctions (read repos, former rentals, title loan defaults and lease turn ins).

Where I live, the best deals are on Craigslist. You are looking for a 5-7 year old car that was/is a 1 owner car. Ideally a 50+ year old owner. Less than 75K miles, well maintained. Of course, it has to be reasonably priced. When you find a car that interests you, compare equivalent car prices by expanding the "within ___ miles" box of the Craigslist search for that make/model/year of car. In my state there is no sales tax if the car is sold by a private owner.

Once you find "the car", call your insurance agent and find out the cost of insuring it. = Varies widely based on make/model.

YOU WANT TO SEE A CARFAX... A must if you want the full history of the car. AND YOU DO.!!

Remember:
Sexy high performance cars are cool.... but Plain Jane sedans are much less expensive to drive/maintain... And both types will take you from A to B, one just costs less to get there.
