That's fucked up. In some states there are anti-age discrimination laws. Maybe he should find a headhunter and list himself with them. Or work as a consultant or contract worker.

@DrMike In my state, age discrimination is prohibited in the state constitution but I have no idea how or even if it can be enforced. They are not even supposed to ask what your age is.
Anyone with a master's degree in a science is smart, educated and thus employable in many non-science fields. Financial companies look for people with degrees in science, engineering and math just because they know they are smart. So maybe he can find a job in another field. He is certainly trainable. Driving a taxi is something that he should never have to do.
