How to deal with small minded people?

Like uncles who are angry that you are dating someone from Poland. :/

I live in a small, small town, and people here are so narrow minded. It honestly makes me angry. I lived overseas for a bit and it really opened my mind.

Usually, I treat small-minded people according to how much I fear them. If they have power over me or have ins with someone who does, I kinda just politely state my disagreement and try to move along. If they do not have any power, then I'll argue in a somewhat pretentious way, to make them feel silly and maybe look inward. Unfortunately, you're probably in the former situation.
@BlueVeins They really don't have any power over me. I was gone for so long and none of them every really checked up on me, so why would they suddenly have power over me now? It's honestly just in my nature to want people to feel happy for me, regardless of what that looks like to them, because I'm willing to do the same for them. And our town is so small, and things spread around fast, so I don't want negatively in my life.

Probably because they're your parents' siblings, and are apparently well enough integrated into the fam/society at large to cause irritation in the first place. They can derive power from influencing the people around you in a negative way. If you don't feel like they can seriously influence you, then more power to ya. That's just my take though.
@BlueVeins I see what you mean. They could have influence on people closer to me, like my parents, and that would obviously effect me. Thank fully, (hopefully) my parents have always said that they support me as long as I'm happy.

@lauriethecolourful Yeah, that's good parenting. I dunno, what are you gonna do?
@BlueVeins There's really nothing I can do about them. People think how they want to think. But I can work on how I react to it, even though it's hard. And I guess if my guy just keeps doing what he's doing, they will see for themselves later. Or maybe not.
