When applying for an INTERNAL position, should my cover letter state that I am a current employee?

Or should I just leave that part out?
I am not concerned about supervisor/management knowing I'm looking for work outside the department. At least I'm tying to stay with the company

You shouldn't really need a cover letter as its within the same company HR will have all your details already so they will pass it on if needed.
